These fish are similar in habits to smallmouth bass. Guadalupe bass, though not very large, are aggressive and strong. Using a 2 - 4 weight rod is usually sufficient for the many Guadalupe bass when Texas fly fishing on the Llano River, but some largemouth bass have been known to grow to more than eight pounds.

The Blanco River is another excellent spot for Texas fly fishing. This limestone stream contains both large and smallmouth bass as well as a variety of sunfish and catfish. It's quite effective on this river to sight cast to visible fish. Damselfly nymphs, poppers, and crayfish patterns are all effective on this river as well. However, it is often better to float fish this river because of limited access and private ownership of some areas of the river bottom.
